They say Lahore is Lahore — and most of what makes that true is packed into a few square kilometres of Mughal ambition. This is a city of tile-work and courtyards, of a fort you can lose an afternoon in and a food street that comes alive at dusk under the shadow of the Badshahi Mosque.

Badshahi Mosque
The city's defining silhouette — Aurangzeb's great red-sandstone mosque, its courtyard big enough to hold tens of thousands. Go at golden hour, when the marble domes catch the light.
Lahore Fort
A UNESCO-listed citadel of Mughal palaces, courtyards and the mirror-work Sheesh Mahal. Give it two hours and you'll still leave wanting more.
Wazir Khan Mosque
The most beautiful tile-work in Lahore, hidden in the bazaars off Delhi Gate. Every surface is painted — go slow and look up.
Shalimar Gardens
Terraced Mughal gardens laid out in 1641 around long reflecting pools and hundreds of fountains. A cool, green escape from the traffic.
Minar-e-Pakistan
The tower that marks where the Pakistan Resolution was passed in 1940, set in a big public park that fills up at weekends.
Lahore Museum
Pakistan's oldest and grandest museum — Gandharan sculpture, Mughal miniatures and the famous Fasting Buddha. Kipling's father once ran it.
Wagah Border
The theatrical evening flag-lowering ceremony at the India border — high kicks, brass, and a roaring crowd. Get there before sunset for a seat.
Data Darbar
The shrine of Data Ganj Bakhsh and one of South Asia's most important Sufi sites, busiest and most moving on Thursday nights.
Anarkali Bazaar
One of the subcontinent's oldest surviving markets — fabric, jewellery, books and street food, best explored on foot with time to get lost.
Lahore Zoo
A century-old zoo right on The Mall — an easy, shaded outing with the kids in the middle of the city.
Jilani Park (Race Course Park)
Manicured lawns, a lake and a famous rose garden — the go-to for a morning walk or a family picnic in Gulberg.
Bagh-e-Jinnah
Colonial-era gardens (the old Lawrence Gardens) with an open-air library and shady old trees — Lahore's green lung.
Tomb of Jahangir
The emperor's elegant riverside mausoleum across the Ravi, all inlaid marble and quiet minarets — usually blissfully uncrowded.
Shahi Hammam / Wazir Khan Hammam
A restored Mughal-era bathhouse just inside Delhi Gate, with beautifully conserved frescoes — a small, rewarding stop in the Walled City.
Fort Road Food Street
Restored haveli rooftops looking straight at the Badshahi Mosque — come for dinner and the best free view in the city.
Gurdwara Dera Sahib
The gold-domed Sikh gurdwara beside the Fort, marking the site of Guru Arjan Dev's martyrdom — a significant stop on any heritage walk.
