Lahore argues about biryani the way other cities argue about football. Everyone has a stall they grew up with, a rival they refuse to acknowledge, and a strong position on how much aloo belongs in the pot. So we did the only reasonable thing: we stopped arguing and counted.
Between August 2025 and July 2026, Mulk members left 40,182 ratings on 312 places serving biryani inside the city limits. We ranked every place with at least 200 reviews, weighted recent ratings more heavily than old ones, then sent two editors to eat at the top twenty over three weeks. Eight didn’t survive the visit. Twelve did.
Swad Restaurant

The rice is separated grain by grain, the aloo holds its shape, and the raita arrives cold — three things almost nobody gets right at the same time. Go after 11 pm when the second pot comes out of the deg.
Bundu Khan · Gulberg

The mutton pulao at lunch is the actual reason to come, and the family hall upstairs is the quietest room on MM Alam Road at 2 pm. Biryani here is restrained — less oil, more yakhni.
Butt Karahi, Lakshmi

Famous for karahi, quietly excellent at biryani — the kitchen makes one pot a night and it’s gone by ten. Go early or wait forty minutes on the footpath, which is its own Lahore experience.

42 commentsSitara at #10 is criminally low. Their Friday pot is better than anything in Johar Town, they just don’t have the review volume.
Second the note about Swad’s late pot. Went at 9 and again at 11:30 the same week — completely different plate.
